What to wear in the summer if you want to kind of cover your legs...

Style Theory: If you are like me, as soon as the sun shines I panic as my legs are never anywhere near summer ready. Slightly out of shape, super pale and in my eyes best kept under wraps until I have spent at east 1 month doing the shred - Jeans are too hot so the big question is, what do you wear?

Well thank goodness there are quite a few easy options on the high street that make summer dressing that little bit easier, here are a few ideas...

The Khaki Trouser
Unbelievably cool, great coverage and a neutral colour that you can wear with any item in your wardrobe..

Just such an easy look, you can throw on a pair of heels, a blazer and a tee for a cool look for work or add the weekend pair with slogan tee or pretty white top and trainers or sliders.
Love these ones...
Topshop £39

I have these ones..
Zara £29.99

Love these skinnier, slouchy trousers..
Asos - Tommy Hilfiger £80
The shape of the Gap ones below is stunning, the kick flare will make ankles look thinner and thighs look slimmer..
Gap £34.95
The Long Short
The next solution is the long short..a super practical alternative to the super short short. They allow you to stay cool, and styled the right way can look pretty amazing...

I love long shorts styled with a shirt or a pretty white blouse and delicate heels..above Pandora Sykes has styled them to perfection...
Asos £18
Zara £19.99
The shorts above are not styled well on the Zara website, I would keep my top really neat, a beautiful neat fitting blouse and a slim fitted blazer that stops at the top of the hip to keep your silhouette slim. I bought a Zara blazer and had it shortened as the length was too long on me (the blazer I am wearing in the photo above with my khaki trousers) I would avoid ankle straps on ankles as they cut off you leg and make legs look shorter so wear with a small heel and a low strap or no strap shoes.
Pure Collection £51
I have these shorts..in photo below and love them, they are super comfy and I can strut confidently around town without showing too much leg!!

Or perhaps a harem style short..I spotted these on Sex & the City (I am currently obsessed watching the boxsets - SJP has completely reignited my love of quirky fashion..in my eyes Patricia Field is the best stylist ever!!)

How amazing does SJP look in these, styled to perfection, a silk cami (loads of these about Topshop/Asos etc ) a denim jacket and a pair of nude heels (keep footwear delicate)
Hush £35
The Pleated skirt
A versatile item to have in your wardrobe in jersey or satin or cotton, can be dressed up for a night out or worn for the daytime with a T-shirt and trainers for a cool look..

Here are a few options..
Topshop £32
Loving these jersey skirts, they hang perfectly and are really comfortable to wear..
Topshop £32
Asos £30

Asos £50
Love this metallic skirt, it looks amazing with a black camisole as above and a pair of trainers, or a T-shirt and flat black strappy sandals. Throw over a biker jacket in the evening.

These are the main things I have been wearing this summer so far, until I get into the swing of shorter things, mind you when I am away on holidays these rules do not apply and the shorter the better so I can get a tan! I will be writing blogs about culottes and maxi dresses this week....

What are your favourite things to wear so far this summer? Do you like coverage on your legs or are you happy to go short? As always I would love to hear your thoughts and comments, until next time Fran xxxx

  1. The long shorts from Hush are gorgeous! I can't seem to decide on a pair of khaki trousers for this summer, there are far too many lovely pairs out there. Jane x

  2. Lots of good ideas, particularly in the warm but not hot weather. I would also add wide-legged culottes or trousers, harem pants and midi dresses.

Love the red and khaki outfit!

  3. I also don't like showing my legs so I wear loose or slim fit trousers in cotton. Always with a pattern (my favourite is florals) to make the outfit more interesting

  4. I have to admit that I'm not particularly confident so I've got my khakis and my pleated skirt at the ready. Though to be honest, I reckon it will be culottes for me all the way this season. Now they are a godsend.

  5. Marks and spencer have the perfect homage to the topshop pleated skirt for half the price I believe....I bought both the grey (jersey material, looks lovely in and washes well, pleats intact!) and the khaki one (lined, gorgeous on, yet to wash!)
