The Perfect Autumn Skin 'Pick me up' with Max Factor

Beauty Theory: It is about this time of year when my skin starts to look dull, it needs a little extra help to even out my complexion and give it a glow. My skin takes on an attractive grey hue and looks patchy so I need a foundation that caters for my combination, increasingly mature..(eek!) skin.

I have been using Max Factor Healthy Skin Harmony Foundation over the last few weeks and it is giving me that summer glow back. It is a medium-high coverage liquid foundation, that feels incredibly light on my skin. It gives skin 24 hour hydration and has SPF20 that is now vital in all my skincare. It adapts to your skin so if you have combination skin, like me, it will keep the shiny bits matt and the dry bits moisturised (in basic terms!) and is affordable from Boots at £14.99.

It is the quickest and easiest foundation to apply, I use the tips of my fingers and a very small amount goes a long way. Now for the scary no make up 'before' shot....

As you can see, if you ignore the lines, my skin is pretty patchy, I have an oily T-zone and slightly drier on my cheeks, with redness on my cheeks and chin and the odd break out and scar from a bad habit of attacking spots and still lots of freckles, as well as a fair amount of pigmentation. I really do not like wearing a lot of make up, partly due to bad time management I just do not organise myself well enough nor do I have the desire to spend hours on my face and partly because my skin feels claustrophobic with a heavy layer of foundation on. The Max Factor Healthy Skin Harmony Foundation feels velvety and light on my skin and can be applied in a flash..

Applying the Foundation
I apply it as I would a moisturiser and only use a small amount at a time. I pay a little more attention to under my eyes and my chin and blend under my neck and down to my decolletage but only the remainder of the foundation that is on my face, less is always more for me. I have found the 'Natural' shade to be the right shade for my skin tone at the moment, I still have a little colour from the summer, however there are 16 shades to choose from so there is a shade to suit most skintones. If you are unsure of the perfect colour for your skin tone there are Max Factor make up in Boots store who will be able to match you up...

Not a massive difference but enough to make me look healthier and my skin looks radiant and even. I like the fact you almost would not notice it but it gives me more confidence that my skin looks better, and it lasts all day. It is a great base for my day to day make up look... - a little bronzer, a slick of eyeliner and some bright pink lips I look a little more alive but more importantly my skin can still breathe.

It is now a firm part of my Autumn Winter make up routine, along with statement earrings and lots of blue...

I guess now I am 42 it is time I started looking after myself a little better and the fact that the foundation takes approx 3 minutes to apply is the first step in the right direction. Are you a foundation fan, which ones do you use and how do find them, have you tried this Max Factor foundation yet? As always I would love to hear your thoughts and comments, until next time Fran

The Year of the Puffa

Style Theory: There is nothing cosier than wearing a puffer jacket in the cold winter months, it makes you feel like you are still wrapped up in a duvet and it is, without a doubt, one of the warmest jackets around. They also look pretty good over dresses, I love a puffer/dress outfit the perfect combination of style and practicality with a added heap of that is a look I can get on board with...
they look amazing with floral dresses...I wrote a blog about them here.. then pick a colour out of the dress and match with your puffer coat, or just go plain black either works pretty well.

Here are the best puffer coats on the high street now..
Ganni £250
I have been dithering about buying this jacket since the summer, I have been in and out of Selfridges trying it on as I love it but I was not sure if I could pull it off as it is super puffy. In the end I just went for it, I sized down one size and love it (RNLI jokes aside ;-) and have already worn it loads. It is great with dresses as it sits on the hips so is the right length not to make me look to short or overwhelm the dress.
Topshop £70
A navy puffer looks great with dresses, it is softer than black against the skin but still looks great with dark or bright floral dresses, pair with tan leather accessories for a stylish look (and I would be tempted to remove the fur detail for a simpler look)
Asos £32.99
Love the puffiness of this jacket, it is a great length (quite cropped)so would sit beautifully over dress and look just as good with jeans and trainers.
Miss Selfridge £59
Love the vivid blue colour, really eyecatching.
Superdry £95
The collar is great on this jacket, I love a high puffer jacket collar it looks so dramatic.
Urban Outfitters £76
Perfect jacket if you fancy adding a splash of colour to your winter wardrobe, wear with dress with touches of yellow in the print.
Urban Outfitters £76
Love the pockets and cropped look of this puffer jacket.
Zara £69.99
Love the fact that this puffer jacket has a hood and is water resistant.
Zara £49.99
A great puffer, again with a hood (very useful) and a good length. Wear with a midi dress and red sock perfection.

My Style
Jacket - Ganni
Dress - Ganni
Trainers - Golden Goose

I am well on board with the puffer jacket, yes I wore them in my fact I was the puffer girl around my university campus, I used to wear mine all the time with my Levis denim jacket layered underneath (still love that look!) But I just love them, warm, comfortable, snuggly and they make the rest of me look slimmer as they are soo puffy!

Are you a puffer jacket fan, what would you style yours with, as always I would love to hear your thoughts and comments, until the next time Fran xxx

More High Street Hits....All Tried and Tested..

Style Theory: It is all very well shopping online but sometimes it is great to try things on, see how they fit, do you need to size up or size down, is the fabric any good/too clingy/too static. Over the last couple of weeks I have been trying on a few things that have caught my eye and here are some stunning high street pieces that are on my shopping list or I have already bought..

The Checked Trousers

Topshop £42

Topshop £42
These are the best checked trousers I have tried on so far. They have slight pleats at the front but are not too bulky and are a good length on me (although I did roll them up once) They have touches of yellow and pink through them so would look great with a pink jumper but I think I would wear them with a black cashmere sweater and I love the idea of them with (faux) snakeskin heels for going out and a pair of trainers for casual. I am wearing a size 10 so I would say these are true to size.
Topshop £42

Topshop £42
I love the bow detail at the front of these,  they would need to be worn with a finer knit or blouse that could be completely tucked into the trousers. Not the best style if you have a tummy like me! These I would say are true to size (I am wearing size 10)

The Knitwear
Topshop £39
Topshop £39
It was only a matter of time before I had this jumper in my shopping basket..frill neck and pink, it is a great comfy weekend jumper with a twist. Wear with leather leggings and trainers for a cool look, this is a size 12 I like my knitwear slouchy!

The Tops and Blouses
Topshop £32

Topshop £32
Apologies for the rubbish snap, this is a screenshot from my Instastories, I forgot to take a photo. I love this top, it is a mesh fabric that is fairly see through but I think you can (just) get away with just wearing a nude bra underneath. I love the print, it is beautiful and the fact that it hides a tummy perfectly and is just one of those perfect 'going out' tops. Wear with ankle length jeans, dark red satin sock boots (Zara have the best ones!) and a navy blazer...just beautiful. I am wearing a size 10 - it is pretty true to size.
Monsoon £49
Monsoon £49
This blouse is a great way to dabble in the cord trend without going full on cord trousers. Definitely for the more flatter chested of us as there is quite a lot going on at the front. I am wearing a size 8 this comes up big so size down. I love it with 'Mom' jeans and flat ballet pumps..the full on Princess Diana look!!

The Dresses..
&Other Stories £125

&Other Stories £125
This dress is expensive but it really is lovely on, the crushed velvet is beautiful and I love the gold embroidery, it looks quite designer-esque. This is a size 36 - it give you a great waist, if, like me you lack one!
&Other Stories £69
&Other Stories £69
Chic, a really easy dress to wear, it would look great with tan, leather, knee high boots and a biker jacket. I put the velvet belt from the dress above on it to cinch in the waist a little, again this was a size 36 (true to size)

Jackets and Coats
Monsoon £99

Monsoon £99
This is the most beautiful, dare I say 'jazzy' jacket. It will look fab over a basic white tee with jeans and white Stan Smith trainers. For an evening out wear buttoned up with a black silk camisole underneath, simple add a pair of heels for a fab winter look.
Monsoon now £104

Monsoon now £104
Military coats always look so chic, paired back with leather leggings, a chunky, roll neck jumper and a pair of heeled boots the coat looks utterly elegant and how Emmanuelle Alt has styled hers below..

The Shoes and Boots..
Dorothy Perkins £22.50

Dorothy Perkins £22.50
I had to buy these shoes the moment I set eyes on them (via Belle and Bunty) they are the most beautiful shade of pink and look fab worn with a jumper and jeans. They come up a tiny bit big but no need to size down a whole size.
M&S £35
M&S £35
Carrie Bradshaw eat your heart out...these are the most fabulous Manolo-like shoes I have seen in a long time and for £35?! M&S does it again, I think I adore this blue colour the most, I would pair with everything from jeans to midi dresses to a full on Carrie moment with a tulle skirt..
Topshop £89
Definitely the boots of the season, these Topshop ankle boots are back in stock and are perfect to wear with floral dresses, they toughen up the look, or wear with ankle length jeans and oversized 90s but also so 2017!

A little round up of what has caught my eye over the last 10 days or so, I love this time of year, Autumn and Winter clothes are my faves, slouchy knitwear, jeans and comfy boots are what A/W is all about, add a few florals dresses into the mix and a pair of checked trousers and you have 2017 wardrobe perfection.

What have you bought so far this season, have you invested much in Autumn/Winter? As always I would love to hear your thoughts and comments, until next time Fran xx
