A little taste of J Crew

Last week I was delighted to attend the J Crew event, at J Crew Brompton Cross, hosted by Laura Fantacci the shopping editor of Red magazine and WIT blog.
Me leaving J Crew....a happy shopper
It was a fabulous evening with lots of champagne flowing and a chance to look at the cream of J Crew's Spring Summer 2014 collection including the stunning range of Sophia Webster for J Crew's shoes.

What I Saw:
A rainbow array of J Crew 'Tippi' sweaters
A range of 'build your wardrobe' outfit ideas chosen by Laura Fantacci
Stunning jewellery in pastels and brights
A fabulous array of beautiful and practical sandals
The highlight for me was the Sophia Webster collection for J Crew, so feminine yet quirky,  shoe perfection
Almost my favourites - Sophia Webster for J Crew Finn Pumps £460
My favourite shoes Sophia Webster for J Crew Riko Pumps £525 (eek!) ...adore.them. sadly none in the world in my size!
My Cinderella's ugly sister moment..my big feet were just too big!

(Shoes..for walking!...Russell and Bromley - similar here
Bag: H&M £19.99

My J Crew wishlist:

Sleeveless Drapey Top in Cove Coral £98
This would look fab dressed down with ankle skimming pale blue jeans and navy/tan strappy sandals
Or dress up for a special event with the matching skirt below
Surf Skirt in cove coral £128
This skirt is in a neoprene fabric and would look good dressed down with a grey t-shirt and strappy tan sandals, or worn for work with a navy silk puff sleeve blouse and navy heels or worn with matching top above.
Embroidered tassel top in Chambray £79.50
A great holiday staple top, wear with short denim cut offs or white skinny length jeans and flat gold sandals.

Embroidered Tunic in Chambray £118
Another classic boho top in beautiful fabric, look stunning on I have ordered this top.
Merino Tippi Sweater in Heather Dusk £69.50
A great basic will go with anything from slouchy distressed boyfriend jeans to a floral pencil skirt, a capsule wardrobe must have.
Vintage Denim jacket in Melrose wash £150
Alex from The Frugality bought this at the event and it looks fab on, would be so versatile, wear with maxis, shorts, white jeans and throw over cocktail dresses.
Vintage Straight jean in Abbot wash £128
Flower Fan Necklace £49.50

Crystal Venus Flytrap Necklace £98
Sophie Small Body Crossbag £89

I have selected the items above as I see them as capsule collection pieces that will see you through a few seasons if not more,  J Crew is on the pricey side but the styling and details just make each piece a little different and a little bit special.

It was a fab evening and a great opportunity to catch up with lovely bloggers including Keri from Chronicles of Dolliedaydream, to talk all things fashion!

I love a little trip into town for a little inspiration, are you a J Crew fan, have you bought anything from there, if money were no object my wardrobe would be full of lots of lovely items but as that is not the case a girl can dream and maybe buy one or two pieces!!

I would love to hear your thoughts and comments as always, Frances xx

Dungarees..yay or nay??

Style Theory: Dungarees are just for toddlers, no? Maybe a few years ago but now they can look chic and cool on grown ups too! They have transcended from babies through to maternity wear and are now being worn by celebrities and fashionistas alike.

They look cool on 20 somethings but I think people slightly older, or in my case a lot older, can wear them too. It is all about styling, keep to one colour like Olivia Palermo, they look fab with ballet pumps and a blouse. Think grown up, keep bags structured, jewellery delicate and throw on grown up coat or trench over the top.
This is my favourite dungaree look, Olivia Palermo styles her black Paige dungarees elegantly with sheer black top underneath and elegant pumps, the recipe for dungaree success.

These khaki dungarees look stunning styled with a white tee, white sandals and a pop of colour with a red bag.
Again, an elegant look with pointed pumps.
Alexa Chung styles her dungarees with classic pumps, white blouse and a Burberry mac.
Love the stripe, heels and red lipstick.
A casual look but again pointed elegant brogues in a vibrant red add a touch of  sophistication.
Dungarees look great with a sheer white blouse underneath, pull the look together with matching heels.
All white a brave take on the dungaree look.
A delicate T-shirt under a pair of distressed dungarees  adds an elegant touch.
Last year dungarees were worn with trainers and T-Shirt (see the picture of how I styled them last year below) but to bring them up to the 2014 look why not give these styling tips a go:
Wear with a sheer/silk blouse underneath
Or a delicate T-Shirt with subtle embellishment
If wearing black or grey dungarees wear a black or grey top underneath it makes the outfit look more 'put together'
Wear with smart ballet pumps (pointed metallic pumps look great) or with heels or sandals.
Keep jewellery subtle, layers of fine gold jewellery looks fabulous.
Add a structured bag, slouchy bags make the whole outfit look too sloppy.
Add a pop of colour to your neutral outfit with a bright primary coloured bag, red looks great.
Wear a smart 3/4 length or full length coat or mac over them.

With this in mind here are the best dungarees on the high street:

Paige Dungarees £165
Zara Racerback Jumpsuit £39.99
These are a safe way to wear the dungaree look, would look lovely worn with a sheer long sleeved black top underneath and a pair of flat pointy pumps.

Try with a top like this:
Mango Stripe Texture T £14.99 (also comes in white to wear with denim/grey dungarees)
These shoes:

Russell and Bromley ToThe Point Shoe £125
Lauren by Ralph Lauren Bag £125
ASOS Dungarees in relaxed fit £38

I would style these denim dungarees below with an white embellished T-shirt or cream silk blouse and heels.

Mango Dungarees £59.99

Miss Selfridge Dungarees £49
What do you think of dungarees? I know they are a complete 'marmite' item but I am a fan.

Here is how I have worn mine, first how I styled them last year with sneakers, vest top and denim jacket..and them how I now think they look better with smarter shoes, a coat and a lace, pretty top.

Last Year styling of the dungarees with the kids!

Coat: M&S
Dungarees: ASOS
Lace Top: H&M
Shoes: M&S
As above.
As always I would love to hear your thoughts and comments, have you already got dungarees, how do you style them?

Until next time, Frances x

The Perfect Spring Wedding and Summer Party Dress

5.08.2014

Style Theory: It is this time of year the search intensifies for the perfect dress to wear to a wedding or summer party. It is important that the dress is comfortable, makes you feel confident and is fabulously flattering.
Dress: Jesire - similar here
Shoes: Nine West - similar here
The photo above is my favourite party dress, bought 6 years ago, I have worn it to weddings, summer balls and have worn dressed down in the winter with opaques and flat ballet pumps. It is my go to dress  for all occasions.

This season there is a huge selection of dresses in High Street stores from beautiful florals, to cool pastels to elegant monchrome. There is a dress to suit everyone, short to maxi and everything in between, here is my edit of my favourite dresses on the high street, I hope I have found one that could be right for you...

Florals
Add a touch of romanticism in a beautiful floral dress. As you know, florals are big news this season and will make an impact so accessories can be kept simple and chic. Pair these dresses with animal print  or nude shoes and match your clutch to one colour featured in the floral print for an extra pop of colour:
Dresses from Left to Right:
Pastels
Subtle, ethereal, pastel colours look beautiful in the summer, pick the colour that most suits your skin tone and add darker tonal accessories for a perfect 2014 look. Pair a pale pink dress with a darker pink clutch and metallic or nude court shoes.

From left to right:

Brights
Make a bold statement in a bright, jewel coloured dress. These beautiful colours look gorgeous paired with metallic accessories, wear silver or gold textured court shoes and a clutch to match.

Monochrome
Channel Audrey Hepburn in monochrome for a chic and stylish look.  Black and white is the ultimate in elegance and is simple to accessorise. Add a red clutch for a pop of colour to your monochrome ensemble and a pair of comfortable, nude, leg-lengthening heels that will take you through from day to evening.
From left to right:

Is there a dress amongst this selection that appeals to you, do you already have a 'go to' dress that you wear time after time?

My Style:
Thanks goodness we have been just holding onto the sunshine this week, although it seems the heavens opened today. So over the last few days for general running around after the kids and writing from home for various publications I have spent my time in jeans and today mostly in a cagoule!!:

A Spot of Double Denim
Denim Shirt: Gap
Jeans: H&M
Fur Gilet: Mango
Bag: H&M
Shoes: M&S
Bringing out my fave Russell & Bromley ballet flats from winter retirement!
Jumper: Cos
Jeans: 7 for all Mankind
Bag: H&M
Ballet pumps: Russell & Bromley
I would love to hear your thoughts and comments on your favourite dresses, will do a post on party separates next week, skirts/trousers/tops etc.

Until next time, Frances xx
