Style Theory: Yellow immediately adds a huge splash of colour and brightness to a Spring/Summer wardrobe. It was the hue most featured on the 2017 Summer catwalks and has now hit the high street with a bang. It is often considered a difficult colour to wear but as all shades are 'in' you will find one to suit your colouring and if you are not mad wearing colour against your skin try one yellow accessory - yellow suede shoes are my yellow accessory of choice, they go with everything..

The Perfect Dress for Every Occassion - I Have Found 'the one' at Topshop

Style Theory: Without a doubt dresses have come into their own over the last couple of years, they are such an easy outfit solution, do not require much styling, you just need to add great pair of shoes (and now that fashion is all about clashing they do not even need to match) and a cool jacket and you are good to go.

Dresses are now my everyday summer outfit of choice, the simplicity of not having to think of a top, bottoms and shoes appeals to my (slightly) lazy nature. Also the fact that you can search out a dress in every conceivable style, length and colour you are pretty much guaranteed you will find one to suit you.

Topshop is my 'go to' destination for the perfect dress, it pretty much caters for every style you could ever want from maxis to minis, cold shoulder looks to slinky spaghetti strapped dresses. From dresses ideal for a wedding guest outfit (they even have a stunning Bridal and Bridesmaid collection), to dresses you can wear everyday for the schoolrun and throw over your swimwear in the summer. They are the perfect addition to a summer wardrobe and can be dressed down or dressed up simply by just swapping from heels to trainers - fashion at it's simplest!

I love this Topshop floral shirred bardot dress it is as perfect to wear for coffee with friends as it is for a summer wedding. It it super flattering, covers all the parts I need covered (ie. top of my arms) skims over my tummy and thighs and shows off my shoulders and ankles (possibly the the best bits at the moment!) It comes up true to size I am wearing a size 10, the shirring elastic keeps it in place and it does not pop up off my shoulders, a seriously comfy dress.

I paired it with a Topshop oversized denim jacket, (I sized down to a size 8) so happy this 90s look is back, my fave look in the 90s and I am feeling pretty happy to have found a denim jacket I love so much. I find denim jackets so good to wear over dresses in the summer, leather bikers can sometimes feel heavy in the summer, a denim jacket gives the cool, casual look without the weight. I also love a denim jacket with a stripe tee, black ankle length skinny jeans and a pair of supergas or vans (the perfect summer 2017 look)

Add a pair of possibly the most flattering yellow suede shoes (from Topshop also) to clash and brighten things up, they are magic shoes that make my ankles and legs look slimmer, are a great height and so easy to walk in (they do come up a little big, if you are in between sizes size down). And a cute pink leather bag resulting in the most comfortable, cool, laid back but dressed up outfit for a day in town with friends. This is the perfect dress for throwing on in the summer when it is warm and you need a comfortable, cool outfit that is non fussy but looks like you have made an effort...

Here are a few of other Topshop dresses I have my eye on...

Topshop Stripe Broderie Smock Dress £48
The ideal beach dress, this blue smock dress is perfect for throwing over a swimsuit on holiday, just wear with a pair of flat tan sandals, flip flops or espadrilles.
Topshop Lasercut Prom Dress £150
The perfect 'dressed up' dress for a wedding or summer event. I would style with mid pink strappy sandals  (I love a mint/pink combo) these ones are perfect and I love a straw clutch at the moment for a lighter bag. Throw a tux jacket over your shoulders, add a smidge of fake tan and you have the perfect outfit.
Topshop Tieneck Swing Dress £69
A cute summer dress, great with a pair of black sliders for holiday or pair with black pointed heels and a biker jacket for a cool summer event look.
Topshop Silk Satin Hanky Hem Dress £160
This dress smacks of Hollywood glamour, so chic and elegant, pair with delicate black strappy sandals, these ones are perfect, add a dark embroidered clutch and a tux jacket over your shoulders (or a denim or biker for a dressed down look)
Topshop Asymmetric Dress £55
This dress would look great with tie ankle espadrilles heels.
Topshop Red Spot Tea Dress £32
Ever since Kate Moss wore a tea dress in the 90s I have been a fan of the style. In true 90s fashion I love them teamed with a ballet pump and a denim jacket.
Topshop Patchwork Belted Dress £39
Simple and elegant - perfect with a black biker jacket and black slip on mules. This is one you may need to size up on as it looks better a little looser and belted to give shape.
Topshop Manga Print Split Dress £59
Beautiful dress, pair with yellow heels and straw clutch to spice it all up. You may want to size up in this dress as it does come up quite small.

And I could go on, so many dresses to choose from, without a doubt my 'dressed up' item of choice this season and I know I will mainly be packing dresses this year when I go away. The Topshop floral shirling dress will definitely get a lot of wear this year...

Have you got any weddings, summer events to go to this year..what are you wearing? Are you on the dress bandwagon too? As always I would love to hear your thoughts and comments, until next time Fran xx

Spring Jackets

4.13.2017

Style Theory: Spring/Summer jackets are a key component to making your wardrobe work for you. In the UK light jackets are a necessity over the course of the spring and summer, I wear them almost every day as even on warm days in the evening you need something over your shoulders to keep off the chill.

There are three main types of summer jacket, The Blazer, The Trench and the Shacket (hilarious and ridiculous name - but basically a shirt/jacket hybrid) All three of these styles I alternate throughout the summer season and they are pretty timeless so can be worn season after season.

Here are my pick of the best and how to style...

The Trench..

Trenches are the perfect jackets to wear with jeans or tailored trousers, they can make a simple jeans, T-shirt and loafer outfit look chic and sophisticated. I would always try to buy a neat fitting one, especially at the shoulders and if you are small opt for a petite option, I normally size down in trenches as in general they are made bigger (not sure why? but every one I have bought or tried on has come up so big!)  Once you get one that fits perfectly it will last you years and years..
Burberry £1295
The dream trench, practically perfect in every way, but obviously a 10 year of coats worth investment. Still, it is worth looking at for inspiration..
Baukjen was £249 now £199
I wore one of these trenches for a shoot recently and completely fell in love with it, it looked great on, I sized down and it fitted beautifully. It is a good weight and cut perfectly.
Warehouse £89
Timeless and classic this Warehouse trench can be worn year after year.
River Island £75
This is not as expensive as the trench above but still looks the part..

The Blazer

I am a huge fan of the blazer, it is a grown up choice of jacket and still has connotations of being a bit 'sloaney' but still I love them. Such a useful jacket to have in your wardrobe, as with the trench it can make even the sloppiest outfit look smart and presentable. The blazer is at it's best when worn with distressed boyfriend jeans, some cool, block heels and a simple tee or blouse, this is my fail safe 'going out' look and one I feel comfortable in year after year..

Boden £120
A great 'sturdy' blazer, this is a flattering cut and style that will last you year after year - and they have 20% off at the moment.
Boden £120
Not a classic but I love the spots on this blazer, kind of classic with a twist (20% off this one too at the moment)
Mango £139
This is quite pricey but looks stunning, a structured blazer that will give you the illusion of a waist and finish off an outfit perfectly.
Zara £59.99
The blazer of the season, very Isabel Marant, very 2017, not a classic but this is the perfect 'fashion lift' to a summer capsule wardrobe.
Zara £69.99
Without a doubt Zara are good at blazers, love the pearl buttons on this one, makes it looks luxe without a luxe price tag.

The Shacket

This is the one jacket once you buy you will be surprised how you lived without it. I have a camo jacket and literally live in it in the summer. It adds that extra layer of warmth without being too padded, it is just great to throw over light white summer tops and jeans, add a pair of heels to smarten up but I can promise you you will wear this jacket non-stop.
Topshop £46
This is the jacket I will be buying this season, just fab for the schoolrun and for summer evenings out to the pub. It is slightly oversized, looks great with skinny, ankle length jeans and a white boho tops and trainers or heels.
Camouflage Jacket £49
Another easy jacket to wear, it adds a tough edge to a girly dress and sandals.
Me +EM £229
A very chic take on the shacket, this jacket tales the look up and notch.
Hush £69
A slightly thicker khaki jacket this Hush military style shacket looks great on and can be worn season after season.
These are the three main jackets I wear throughout Spring, summer and into autumn, they pretty much cover every event, smart and casual, over dresses, skirts and jeans, with tee and blouses, flats and heels.

What style of jackets are your summer must haves? As always I would love to hear your thoughts and comments, until next time, Fran xx
