The BIG Black Ankle Boot Edit

10.26.2017

Phs via Pinterest
Style Theory: My style brief to me (yes I really do that!) was to find a pair of flat boots that will work with jeans for the schoolrun (and keep my feet dry) but also work as well with dresses when running up to London in the winter in between drop off and school pick. They must look chic, but be chunky, be comfortable and not make my feet look too big..mmmm tricky

I have been a woman on a mission researching the best flat(ish) Black ankle boots around and here are my findings...
Office £90 *20% off with code TREAT at checkout
THE style of boots to wear last year, still going strong this year. These ones are so lovely on, not overly chunky, the gold studs around the bottom add femininity and they are super comfy. These look great with jeans and dresses..
Office £89
I love the shape of these boots, they are so flattering on, the top of the boot stops at a flattering place on the legs and as they have a block heel so they look great with dresses and skirts as well as jeans. I tried them on today and they are so comfortable, if in between sizes size down.
Office £89 *20% off with code TREAT at checkout
These look amazing on, the same style as above but the faux croc skin makes them look so expensive, this photo does not do them justice, I think I will have to order them as they looked fab with the dress I was wearing.
Office £85 *20% off with code TREAT at checkout
These boots again look great on, a girl was trying them on next to me (and bought them) they looked great on her with black skinny jeans and bright knit. A good tip if you have big feet, buckles at the front of boots break up the boot making it look smaller.
Topshop £85
These boots are literally like slippers, so incredibly comfortable on and look great.
Topshop £89
These boots have been so popular this year and do look fab on, especially 'prettied' up with dresses and skirts, they come up a little big so if in between sizes size down.
Topshop £75
I do love a sock boot, they look great under jeans as they sit neatly on the legs and under ankle length jeans.
Topshop £72
I spent all last year looking for a pair of boots with zips up the front, I love these ones, I tried them on and again they are super comfy. I was so tempted to buy them but will cut off the buckle detail as I like the simple zip look - a bit wrong to buy then cut off part of the design but I like the clean zip look.
Clarks £90
Again so comfy, these Clarks shoes are quite chunky but really light and comfortable on, they are made of Italian leather so extremely soft.
Carvela £169
Kurt Geiger £229 (now £179)
Love the bow at the side of these boots, they would need to be worn with ankle length jeans or skirts and dresses..
Kurt Geiger £225
Love the bow on the masculine boot, it looks gorgeous.
Chloe Harper £715
Still love these boots, they are really the ones that inspired me to find a high street 'homage'..

SO many to choose from, I did try on quite a few pairs in Zara too but just found they may need a but of wearing in as the leather does not tend to be very soft but there are some fab styles here

I have a pair of Chloe Susannas that I really should be wearing and although I love them on other people I am not mad on them on me. I like a chunkier boot at the moment, I love the way they toughen up floral dress and look a little edgy. Also loving the fact I can stick them on with my jeans for the schoolrun and my feet will stay dry, I am a little fed up with soggy trainers and cold ankles.

Have you got the ultimate black ankle boot, which one did you go for? As always I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions, until next time Fran xx

Some New High Street Hits - Tried and Tested

10.24.2017

Style Theory: I am back again with my edit of my favourite items to buy on the high street all tried on and tested by me - #shoppingwithFran time! These items caught my eye and I know will slot perfectly into my Autumn/Winter wardrobe...

I have also filmed what they looked like when I tried them on ..so if you fancy seeing them 'in real life' I have popped the link at the bottom of the blog post.

Starting with H&M
H&M definitely excel at blouses, they are cut well and although they are not normally cotton they seem to feel amazing on and sit well tucked into trousers or jeans (they dont feel too sweaty!). I have bought quite a few blouses and shirts from H&M over the years and whenever I am in any doubt of what to wear for a night out I reach for my H&M blouses time and time again, I pair with my anvient boyfriend jeans, some heels and a tux jacket for still, one of my favourite, comfortable but cool outfits..
H&M £17.99

H&M £17.99
This blouse has a distinct Gucci vibe going on, I love it, it looks great with jeans and is a real showstopper of a top without trying too hard. It would look great with my pink velvet heels and boyfriend jeans. I am wearing a size 10 and it was true to size. Incidentally, I am pretty sure this was £12.99 in store, slightly annoying that the price differs!
H&M £17.99
H&M £17.99
This blouse looks so much more expensive than £17.99, it feels amazing on and I love the polka dots and the sleeves with covered buttons. It would look great for work with tailored black ankle length trousers and heels, equally it looks pretty good with blue or black jeans and trainers. Beautiful paired with a dark red velvet jacket or dark red velvet heels and a matching bag
H&M £17.99
H&M £17.99

This blouse is the same style as the floral one above, it looks great on, would look great with a bright red lip, jeans and red boots, add a fine gold necklace and you have a beautiful winter look.

H&M £34.99
H&M £34.99

This is a beautiful skirt on, it looks great, I love it with my M&S cashmere sweater (seriously I live in this sweater!) and with trainers, it has an elastic waist which sealed the deal for me! Just pop a biker jacket over the top for a cool, day time look. *It is quite static but a reader gave me the most genius tip, pop a safety pin the lining of the skirt and it will take away the static!

H&M £24.99
H&M £24.99

Or for a fancier look, pair with this matching mesh top, it creates the most gorgeous dress. It looks quite Erdem (but loads cheaper) perfect for a wedding or Christmas event. I am wearing size 10 in both top and skirt, and I popped a black vest top underneath this that I bought from H&M. Love love it!

H&M £12.99
This is completely random but I found this is the boys section of H&M age 14+. I wear hoodies all the time to do the schoolrun and loved the colour of this one. I cannot find this exact one online but this one here is fab (I bought it for Jack so we are now matching much to his dismay!)

The Dress of the Season..
Ted Baker £229
Ted Baker £229

I am completely and utterly obsessed with this dress, I have had so many messages from readers asking what to wear to a winter wedding/Christmas event..I would wear this, it is pricey but so so beautiful. The colour is the deepest midnight blue, it is quite heavy velvet but this just means it hangs perfectly. I love the bow detail at the neck, it fits and flatters like a dream skimming over all lumps and bumps. I am wearing a size 2...really really want an event to go to so I can wear this!

So there is a round up of what caught my eye this week. I will be doing this type of blogpost every week, thank so much to you all for your feedback on Instastories about what you wanted to see, I was overwhelmed with the lovely response, so thank you! Have a wonderful week...next I am looking at flat ankle boots that look great with dresses and jeans and are also pretty useful on the schoolrun on rainy mornings.

Affordable Cashmere, Floral Skirts and the BEST shoes...

10.22.2017

Style Theory: I have a new obsession, it is M&S cashmere jumpers..I have three (black, red and navy breton) and they are currently on rotation in my wardrobe, in fact I am wearing my black jumper (with my pj bottoms!) as I type. For me Autumn is all about cosy knitwear mixed with bright stand-out skirts or dresses and some ridiculously frivolous (not too expensive) heels.

M&S have come up trumps with all the above, I love this cashmere round neck sweater, it is so soft, a great shape and sits beautifully on. I bought a size 10 and it fits perfectly, just as good with a statement skirt as with jeans and trainers..the most versatile and most worn item I have bought so far this season..
Skirt - M&S £55
Cashmere Jumper - M&S £75
Velvet puffer Jacket - M&S £75
Shoes - M&S £35
The skirt is beautiful on, a real eyecatching piece that feels amazing on. It is thick fabric so sits well and covers a multitude of sins - I am wearing a size 10, I would say it is true to size. I love pinks, purples and golds, they have a real autumnal/Christmassy feel and the skirt with the jumper paired with the plum heels, for me, is my perfect dressed down dressed up look. Just add a velvet puffer, to keep the cold off and I am in my happy style comfort zone...

Here are some other Marks and Spencer pieces I have my eye on..
M&S £45
M&S £45
I spotted this top online and was desperate to try it on. It looks great on, it is a cotton poplin fabric so quite stiff but it suits it. I love the sequin detail at the top and it has a bow detail at the back, it is true to size (this is a 10) It would look fab with ankle length jeans a high heeled, black ankle boots, this came home with me..
M&S £29.50

M&S £29.50
Its all about red this season and this top will add a pop of colour to your wardrobe. It is beautifully light on and comes up true to size..the arms are a little long so I had to pull them up slightly, apart from that it is a great addition to an autumn/winter wardrobe. Wear with a navy blazer, jeans and trainers for a cool look.
M&S £27.50

M&S £27.50
A great top to wear with black jeans and black heeled boots for an evening out. Really comfortable, it comes with a black vest top underneath and would look great with gold, statement earrings.
M&S £69
M&S £69
I do love a velvet jacket in the Autumn and winter, they are such useful jackets for wearing out to dinner or drinks, they dress up a simple t-shirt, jeans and trainers look and look great with silk camisole, boyfriend jeans and heels for a Christmas do. This M&S one is great, it is a good length (sits just below my hips) is a flattering cut and the collar sits perfectly. I am wearing a size 8 which is a good size for me if I am not wearing a jumper, if you are intending on wearing the jacket with anything chunky underneath take your normal size, if not size down.

M&S £35
The dream shoes, very 'Manolo' very much cheaper! These look fab on and for £35 you can have your own 'Carrie Bradshaw' moment...

So many beautiful pieces, it is always worth having a good old search through M&S, there is so much stock in there it is sometimes difficult to see the gems they have but they are there!. If you try nothing else check out their cashmere, it is well worth the money and makes the most luxurious gift. To see all the items above 'in action' check out my instastories on @thefashion_lift - it will give you a good idea of how they look 'in real life'..

Thanks so much for reading, until next time Fran xxx
