Partywear..my way with Debenhams

11.03.2016

Style Theory: What to wear to a Christmas party?? If you are like me you will want to wear 'the party dress' but calm the whole party look down with some dressed down accessories to ground your look. Partywear can be scary, it can conjure up images of sparkles, sequins, heels and fur stoles all.at.once - this strikes fear in me, I like to be dressed up with a heavy balance of dressed down.

Debenhams asked me to style up a few of their AW16 partywear styles, a mix of designers at Debenhams and some high street brands available at Debenhams online. The dresses and jumpsuits are gorgeous and just needed a little toughening up with biker jackets and boots to bring them into my comfort zone and make me feel completely party ready...

Dress - Preen/Edition @Debenhams £75 (20% off now £60)
Leather Biker Jacket-Nine by Savannah Miller @Debenhams £250 (30% off now£175)
Shoes - Faith @Debenhams £55
It is so lovely be able to have a Preen dress in your wardrobe with a high street price tag. This dress is pure velvet luxury, it has a ruched front (great for hiding a tummy) and ruched at the back - to create the illusion of a Kim K butt! It can be worn with or without the straps, whichever suits better, I wore without and the sweetheart neckline is super flattering, it is kind of Nigella Lawson at Christmas which I love!!

The leather jacket - Nine by Savannah Miller is the best I have ever tried on, it is quite a heavy leather that keeps you warm and feels really substantial. It fits perfectly, a neat but comfortable fit that is both flattering and works perfectly to toughen up this season's dresses. I can imagine this look with a pair of Chloe Susanna-esque boots as well as these dainty leopard mix heels..so many options and not a spangle in sight!

Dress - Butterfly by Matthew Williamson @Debenhams £250 (20% off now £200)
Boots - J by Jasper Conran @Debenhams £75
Clutch bag - Wallis £25
The colours on this heavily embroidered dress are beautifully eyecatching, It is fairly pricey but the detail is beautiful. I am, albeit very recently, into the boot/dress combo, granted it is not as flattering on legs as high heels but I think it gives the look an edge, a more dressed down A/W16 vibe.

Jumpsuit - Red Herring £45
Shoes - Faith @Debenhams £55
Pyjama dressing gets my vote this season, there is literally nothing as comfortable, what is better than going to a Christmas party in your pjs?! And this jumpsuit is a pretty gorgeous take on the pyjama trend, fits slightly on the small side (I sized up one size) the tapered trousers are super flattering, pair with heels to dress up and party till late..
Dress - Red Herring @Debenhams £59 - avail online soon
Boots - J by Jasper Conran @Debenhams £75
Jacket - Nine by Savannah Miller @Debenhams £65 (30% off making it £45)
Super duper sparkly, you cannot get more Christmas than a pink sequin dress, throw a khaki jacket over the top to ground the look and add a pair of dark red boots to add depth and voila a laid back party outfit...

Dress - Principles by Ben De Lisi £60 (20% off now £48)
Shoes - Faith pink court heels £39
A classic red dress, that flatters and is incredibly easy to wear. I paired it with pink court shoes to clash the colours and add some extra interest, add fine gold jewellery for a simple but showstopping look at a reasonable price.

Which is your favourite look, do you go bold when it comes to partywear or are you like me and prefer to dress it down a little? As always I would love to hear your thoughts and comments, until next time Fran xxx

Christmas Partywear....the easy way

Style Theory: I have an admission, I suffer from #FOBO (Fear Of Being Overdressed) I am always happier a little dressed down, I love a party outfit but I like to add a casual edge to balance out my look, think sequin trousers and trainers, glittery tops and jeans. I am uncomfortable with the all singing, all dancing party look, I adore it on other people but on me it feels a little feel too much.

So when La Redoute asked me to create a few party looks, I was initially slightly worried but when I looked at their gorgeous range online and added my own spin, I was delighted with the results. Comfortable, flattering and suitable for a party..here are my La Redoute Party looks and the good news is most of it is up to 50% off at La Redoute now...

The Velvet Jacket

Jeans - Gap (old season)
The sparkly, fine knit top is incredibly flattering, it adds Christmas sparkle and a touch of style with the open back detail. So soft and comfortable to wear, I wore my normal bra underneath but you may need to wear a backless bra/mulitway bra. The knit is an amazing price at £21, I chose the silver coloured black top but both colours are stunning...

The Velvet jacket is my hero partywear item, absolutely adore this item, it is so on trend this year but also such a classic piece. It fits beautifully, I ordered the size 10 and it fits perfectly, the velvet feels luxurious alongside the gold button details for a chic finish. Again a really affordable price from £38.

The Leather Dress

Shoes - Nine West (old Season) similar here
Scarf - Burberry (nearly vintage it is so old!)

This camel coat is a beautiful wool and cashmere mix, it looks and feels so expensive and hangs beautifully on. A classic shape so worth investing and looks effortlessly chic. Without a doubt the best affordable camel coat I have found this year, I will be investing in it. It comes up a little big, I am wearing a uk 8.

To add a little spice to your look, this 'soft as butter' leather dress the ultimate LBD, it fits like a glove creating a flattering silhouette, it really is beautiful on and the length is perfection, hugs your curves but skims over lumps. The coat is the perfect neutraliser to the leather dress, add a pair of leopard print heels and a little black understated bag for a easy, chic look.

The Easy Wear Dress

Leather Trousers - Quattro Rish
Coat - M&S (old season)
Shoes - M&S as above

This dress is so easy to wear, throw over jeans, leather leggings or opaque tights, add a pair of black courts to lengthen legs (especially when wearing black opaques) and add a touch of clashing pink and you have a comfortable, cool, flattering Christmas party look. This is the perfect outfit if you, like me, are a little out of shape and have been dodging the gym and indulging in mince pies, it covers over everything and I love the extra support of leather leggings to hold it all in and slim down my look and it is only £21.

Velvet, Glitter, Tutus and Trainers

So not necessarily understated but how often do you get to wear a tutu?! I adore the La Redoute velvet jacket and sparkly top with this look and the trainers bring it back down to earth. All in all a pretty comfortable but quite show stopping look and one of my favourites.

La Redoute have an amazing sale on at the moment so many of the pieces I have featured are heavily discounted making them the perfect Christmas party treat.

Do you have #FOBO , or do you like going all out for the partywear? I would love to see your #FOBO Christmas looks on Instagram, please share them with me with the hashtag #FOBO.

Christmas Party - Outfit Post

Style Theory: My aim...A Christmas party outfit that was comfortable and a little different, involving lots of clashing textures and colours and this was the result.
Chunky Fur Coat - Topshop £89.99
Dress - H&M £29.99 (available in-store) or similar here
Leopard Print clutch - &Other Stories £19
Shoes - Dune Breanna £89 (via Debenhams)
I tried this dress on in H&M a few months ago and loved the deep teal colour and for £29.99 it was really reasonable. The pink Dune shoes are the nearest I will get to Manolo Blahniks and look elegant on.

The Topshop faux fur coat is quite grand but I think if I am going to wear faux fur I may as well go for full drama. It is the kind of coat that looks just a good with trainers as is does with an evening dress.
The leopard print clutch from &OtherStories was a great size and I liked the authentic (faux) leopard print fur on it. Leopard print is now in the realms of a neutral, I consider it the same as black when pairing it with outfits so I know I will get plenty of use out of this.

With the husband in the lift...he is not a fan of photos!

The party was at The Corinthia Hotel, Whitehall, we stayed there too. It was stunning, extremely luxurious and a fabulous location, so central, 2 minutes from Covent Garden, across the river from the London Eye. It has one of the best Spas in London, unfortunately due to our not so good time management and a poorly little son we didn't get a chance to use it...maybe next time!

Have you had your Christmas party, what did you wear? Are you a fan of clashing up your outfits? I would love to hear your ideas, thoughts and comments, until next time Frances x
