The Summer Top I will be wearing all Summer

Style Theory: I know these embroidered tops have been around a while in designer form, but now that the high street have cottoned on to the style and introduced them in the Spring collections they are more affordable and still look amazing on. I am just about to start packing for a quick Easter break to Barcelona with the family and I have packed three of this style of top so I now know this will be my 'go to' style of tops this summer.

Here is the low down on why they are topping the charts as my new favourite summer tops; the colours are gorgeous, the embroidery looks stunning adding interest to the top making it look really expensive. My untoned arms are covered by the voluminous sleeves but as the sleeve is big I do not overheat (nothing worse that tight sleeves in the sun) They are normally fairly baggy around my tummy area (hiding my mum tum) and are great to tuck loosely into jeans (ankle length pale blue jeans look great) or denim shorts. They can worn tied up at the top or worn loose which ever suits your neckline the best, and finally, they add a 'fashion lift' to my existing summer wardrobe and can easily be slotted in to be worn with my many pair of dungarees, jeans and denim shorts. Wear them with trainers (I love them with stan smith style white trainers, tan strappy flat sandals or heeled strappy shoes)

So useful I promise you, you will wear them time and time again..
Next £40
The insta-famous red embroidered top, I have this and have worn it so much already, it will definitely turn out to be a good buy (price per wear) this summer. It comes up fairly baggy but is meant to be worn big, I ordered the small (I am a good size 10) and the sizing was perfect. I have teamed it with my dungarees and red shoes, with jeans and trainers and will wear it with my denim shorts and havianas (red ones - love a bit of matchy, matchy) in the summer..
Next £40
I am tempted to buy the blue one too, this styling does not do the top justice, it looks better with delicate rather than super chunky sandals (think tan leather strappy sandals and lighter blue jeans or clashed with a summer skirt (see the street style looks above) again you will wear this a lot and it will suit almost all body shapes.
Next £26
This is a slightly different style but the bright print (and great price) caught my eye. This would look great with one side tucked into cargo pants or ankle length jeans and some plain strappy sandals.
Boden £70
This top looks slightly more fitted than the Next ones above so perfect or you prefer your tops to look a little neater. I love the puff sleeve and the embroidery detail.
Topshop £39
Along the theme with embroidery, this top is gorgeous, navy is so flattering on skin in the summer (it looks great against skin kissed skin, super elegant) An easy top to wear with jeans and stan smith style trainers.
Asos £60
The hem details and sleeve detail is stunning on this top and white and blue works wonders in the summer. For now wear under a blue blazer with jeans and pink gucci-esque loafers in the summer wear with pale wash blue ankle length jeans and trainers or tan sandals.
Asos £38
The dream colour combo, I just adore adore this top, wear with skinny ankle length jeans a red loafers..the perfect Spring/summer outfit..
Zara £39.99
Zara has nailed this look as always. As you can see with the styling above (eek) these tops look so much better if worn with bottoms that are fitted at the hips and they look better tucked in a little and blousoned out. Make the top the biggest proportion and make sure the bottoms are tailored and fitted.
Zara £39.99
The multi-coloured embroidery means this top will go with anything..
Zara £39.99
Pink and embroidered this is on my Barcelona shopping list..
M&S (Petite) £29.50
Super light, made of pure cotton, this will be the perfect top for putting over a bikini and wearing with denim shorts for an easy beach to lunch/evening drinks look.
M&S £35
Another top that has been featured on Instagram quite a lot is this one, really easy to wear and incredibly flattering on, this top will be perfect for now and take you through the summer and into the winter.
River Island £35
Just gorgeous, wear with skinny ankle jeans and supergas.
Isabel Marant Etoile £335
My absolute dream top, this would look good with everything, it is way out of my budget but looks utterly amazing on, would it pay cost per wear?! (honestly I am not sure and also do not the money to front the 'cost per wear') but anyway, it is a great item just to admire in the meantime!!

MY STYLE

Wearing my red Next top, it is just so comfy and definitely my top of the summer.

Have you found your 'go to' uniform for the Spring/Summer yet? What are your thoughts on the embroidered top? I know things can be overhyped by instagram sometimes but this is one top I am so glad I bought into as I simply love wearing it and hype or no hype, it makes me happy, hides all my lumps and bumps and I know I will more than get my money's worth out of it..

As always I would love to hear you thoughts and comments, until next time Fran xxx

  1. I love embroidered tops! I have just ordered this top from Gap http://www.gap.co.uk/browse/product.do?cid=60760&vid=1&pid=000527880001
They are perfect for the summer!

  2. I always like them on bloggers (think The Frugality styles them particularly well.) Just not sure if it is for me. I have extremely narrow shoulders, so I tend to drown in them and look far bigger than I need to. A tee tends to work better for me anyway! But a nice selection there!

  3. I don't think these are for me, although the Boden ones is great.
I haven't thought too much about my summer uniform, but it's usually short sleeved tops (occaisionally a tee) and jeans or trousers with my fave summer brogues and sneakers. A cardy for layering, a blazer when it's colder during the day. Summer sweaters and shirts in summery colours for those dull days that are never going to warm up. If it gets really warm then skirts will be seen occaisionally, or for an evening out otherwise.
