The BIG Black Ankle Boot Edit

Style Theory: My style brief to me (yes I really do that!) was to find a pair of flat boots that will work with jeans for the schoolrun (and keep my feet dry) but also work as well with dresses when running up to London in the winter in between drop off and school pick. They must look chic, but be chunky, be comfortable and not make my feet look too big..mmmm tricky

I have been a woman on a mission researching the best flat(ish) Black ankle boots around and here are my findings...
Office £90 *20% off with code TREAT at checkout
THE style of boots to wear last year, still going strong this year. These ones are so lovely on, not overly chunky, the gold studs around the bottom add femininity and they are super comfy. These look great with jeans and dresses..
Office £89
I love the shape of these boots, they are so flattering on, the top of the boot stops at a flattering place on the legs and as they have a block heel so they look great with dresses and skirts as well as jeans. I tried them on today and they are so comfortable, if in between sizes size down.

These look amazing on, the same style as above but the faux croc skin makes them look so expensive, this photo does not do them justice, I think I will have to order them as they looked fab with the dress I was wearing.

These boots again look great on, a girl was trying them on next to me (and bought them) they looked great on her with black skinny jeans and bright knit. A good tip if you have big feet, buckles at the front of boots break up the boot making it look smaller.
Topshop £85
These boots are literally like slippers, so incredibly comfortable on and look great.
Topshop £89
These boots have been so popular this year and do look fab on, especially 'prettied' up with dresses and skirts, they come up a little big so if in between sizes size down.
Topshop £75
I do love a sock boot, they look great under jeans as they sit neatly on the legs and under ankle length jeans.
Topshop £72
I spent all last year looking for a pair of boots with zips up the front, I love these ones, I tried them on and again they are super comfy. I was so tempted to buy them but will cut off the buckle detail as I like the simple zip look - a bit wrong to buy then cut off part of the design but I like the clean zip look.
Clarks £90
Again so comfy, these Clarks shoes are quite chunky but really light and comfortable on, they are made of Italian leather so extremely soft.
Carvela £169
Kurt Geiger £229 (now £179)
Love the bow at the side of these boots, they would need to be worn with ankle length jeans or skirts and dresses..
Kurt Geiger £225
Love the bow on the masculine boot, it looks gorgeous.
Chloe Harper £715
Still love these boots, they are really the ones that inspired me to find a high street 'homage'..

SO many to choose from, I did try on quite a few pairs in Zara too but just found they may need a but of wearing in as the leather does not tend to be very soft but there are some fab styles here

I have a pair of Chloe Susannas that I really should be wearing and although I love them on other people I am not mad on them on me. I like a chunkier boot at the moment, I love the way they toughen up floral dress and look a little edgy. Also loving the fact I can stick them on with my jeans for the schoolrun and my feet will stay dry, I am a little fed up with soggy trainers and cold ankles.

Have you got the ultimate black ankle boot, which one did you go for? As always I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions, until next time Fran xx

  1. Hi Fran, I’m another boot addict! This year, after many years of buying, wearing and throwing cheaper black boots, I’ve stumped up for a waterproof classic Chelsea boot from Aquatalia. Mine are the leather Fausta. Really happy with them, and looking to add a heeled pair (maybe the Dee or the Danni) next. Russell and Bromley have the suede version http://www.russellandbromley.co.uk/ankle-boots/fast-dry/invt/372770
I’ll stick to the likes of Topshop for more trend led boots (and I’ve no complaints about the 6 (oops) pairs I’ve bought in the past two years), but for the styles that I wear year on year, it’s time for an upgrade. RachelinOz.

They are so lovely and comfortable on and the softest leather. Good heal height too. I'm finding they go with everything, as long as there's not too much detail going on in the rest of my outfit. Love your blog Fran, thanks for all the research. I find your #shoppingwithfran stories really helpful! xx

  5. Some great choices. Especially love the Office boot with velvet. I have wanted Chloe Susanna boots for ages but couldn't justify the price. After seeing them on a few instagram pages I bought the copies from Jessica Burrman. Something I really wouldn't normally do. However, I love them.
Love your # shoppingwithfran. Keep them coming. You're fast becoming my favourite blogger. X
